Partners for Children |
|
| THE JUNIOR LEAGUE AND THE CAC |
| The Child Advocacy Center (CAC)
and the Junior League of Mobile have a long-term partnership that
has improved
the lives of Mobile area children and helped make the work of the
CAC possible. In March of 1987 the Junior League
made a $25,000 donation to the CAC to be used as a down payment on
the purchase of our present facility at 1351
Springhill Avenue. Without this generous grant the CAC board would
not have had the funds to purchase this facility or secure a loan on
the remaining amount of the house and property we are now in.
Since the CAC opened its doors in
March of 1988 the Junior League has continued to be an annual
generous funder of the CAC’s services and programs to help this
community’s abused and molested children. Without these funds the
CAC would not have been able to provide the services that it has
since 1988 for child victims of sexual and severe physical abuse and
their non-offending family members. The CAC is one of Junior
League’s partners in its Youth At-Risk Task Force. Representatives
from the CAC,
the Junior League, and other organizations meet periodically at the
Junior League to assess this community’s response to at risk
children and the services they need. Perhaps the most
important partnership between the Junior League and the CAC has been
the parent information program that is part of the Mobile County
Public Schools Child Personal Safety Curriculum. Entitled, “Child
Abuse: What Every Parent Needs to Know,” the program was developed
by the CAC and the Junior League in 1991 to be an evening program
for parents in public schools where the new child personal safety
(child sexual/physical abuse awareness) curriculum was being
implemented. Representatives from the CAC and Junior League
volunteers go to PTA/PTO meetings in the evening and present an
overview of child abuse, an overview of the new curriculum, and an
overview of the CAC and the services it provides. Since 1991
this exciting parent education program has been presented to
thousands of Mobile County adults and has resulted in numerous child
abuse reports as well as strong support for the new child abuse
curriculum. Those wishing more information on the parent
education program should contact Ms. Paula Loper, CAC Educational
Programs Coordinator, at 342-8699. |
